Happy Birthday

Well, it's been a bit since my last post. Late June / Early July has been a very busy month. I did three sessions at a code camp for the Birmingham Software Developers Association. Then next weekend I acted as Field Day Chairman for the combined Shelby County and Birmingham Radio Clubs Field Day.

My next two were busy with travel to see relatives. We had a good time, a bunch of us went to Six Flags. I also got to spend a little time at Kennesaw Mountain, a Civil War park. Picked up an interesting biography on General George Thomas, a Virginian who stayed loyal to the Union. (My wife keeps referring to him as "that turncoat"). Fighting primarily in the Tennessee theater, he became known as the "Rock of Chickamauga".

Among all the other fun I also managed to earn my CTM (Competent ToastMaster) award. I have a lot of fun doing public speaking, and earning a CTM has been something I always said "one of these days". Well, like my ham radio license that's another "one of these days" items I can check off. I'm still looking forward to going up the ranks, there are multiple levels you can achive within the Toastmasters organization. It's nice to have personal challenges.

I turned 41 today. Can't tell much difference, except now the doc wants to be REEEEAL good friends with me once a year (can you say "bend over and cough"?). I always have thought the concept of birthdays was rather odd. Why should I get a gift just because I was born? I certainly had nothing to do with it. I've always thought it would make more sense to give my parents, or at least my mother the gift for birthing me, then putting up with me while I was a pain in the butt all those years.

So here's to you mom, thanks and happy birthday!
